So Marshmallow on Nexus 6P by default only supports FAT32 and if you insert exFaT or NTFS external devices it tells you it does not support the device and asks you to erase and format the device, it then formats it to FAT32 even if it is a 128GB SSD etc, if 4GB file limitation for you is not an issue then this is fine and at least you do not need a special program to format it to get it to work, Marshmallow will do it for you.
However if you want bigger than 4Gb file support then you need to do the following which I have confirmed working -
Download USB plugin for Total Commander - https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...lugins_ntfs_ro & Total Commander - file manager - https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...TotalCommander
When you plug in your NTFS device the USB plugin will launch, you can enable Write Support if you want, although I have not tested this yet as I only need read support, you will still get a notification about your device being unsupported but you can ignore it as Total Commander will still be able to read and launch movies etc with whatever App supports your movies etc.
